Abstract :
With the data rates of mobile broadband soaring, cutting-edge scientists are starting to build the tactile Internet. 5G networks will not be juiced-up version of today´s 4G mobile phone networks. To make next-generation mobile networks possible, operators will have to deploy completely new network technology, and use broader swathes of the radio spectrum. Nobody has quite figured out how exactly to make it work, which is mainly because there are neither standards agreed nor spectrum set aside. What´s clear, though, is the ambition: superfast networks with data speeds of around 10Gbit/s, and a latency (or delay for establishing the connection and transmitting the signal) of some very few milliseconds (4G has a typical latency of about 50ms).
