Abstract :
The goal for the biennial American Solar Challenge (ASC) is for participating universities to build and race solar-powered electric vehicles across the country on public roads. While the route maps have varied greatly since the competition began as the GM Sunrayce in 1990, the distance traveled is typically between 1,200 and 2,400 mi. In 2012, the 1,650-mi race route from Rochester, New York, to St. Paul, Minnesota, took solar car teams through all of the states bordering the Great Lakes, using the slogan ?Eight States in Eight Days.?
