Abstract :
The third child of two Ph.D. economists, Paul Felix Goldsmith spent his teenage years in Washington, DC, while his father, Raymond W. Goldsmith, commuted back and forth to New Haven, CT, USA as a distinguished faculty member at Yale University. Raymond Goldschmidt, the son of a German banking family, was born in Belgium and educated in Berlin. He immigrated to the United States in 1934, and ended up teaching at Carleton College in Minnesota.
