Abstract :
Health information retrieval and YouTube can be used as powerful tools aimed to improve users´ health knowledge. However, YouTube videos must be carefully analysed in order to avoid misleading health content, such as inaccurate health information, non-up-to-date treatments, false medical products promoted by for-profit organizations, and information not related to health. This paper presents an approach for retrieving trustworthy health videos from YouTube. Our algorithm automatically identifies videos coming from credible sources (such as hospitals and health organizations) and re-ranks YouTube results so that such videos are given priority in the ranking list. Video metadata and YouTube social interaction information is used to automatically determine if a video is provided by such a credible source. The algorithm is tested and results show that the amount of recommendable videos ranked within top-10 increase when using our Domain-based ranking, compared with the original YouTube ranking.
