  • Abstract
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (OFDM-PON) has been considered as a promising candidate for the next generation access network due to its high spectrum efficiency, flexible resource allocation and natural compatibility with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) implementation. In the OFDM-PON, power efficiency is one of important topics attained extensive attentions because the access network is a main power contributor in the whole infrastructure. The previous works focused on reducing the power consumption of OFDM-PON in the Media Access Control (MAC) layer. In this paper, we investigate the joint optimization of bit and power loading for saving power consumptions in the OFDM-PON from the algorithm level perspective. With the constraints of the total bit rate requirement and the acceptable Bit Error Rate (BER), we aim to minimize the transmitted power of ONUs in the OFDM-PON. We transformed this problem into a mathematic model, and then we proposed an efficient algorithm to jointly optimize the bit and power loading, according to our model. Simulation results demonstrate the performances of our proposed algorithm.
