Abstract :
This paper presents an I/O driver specifically suited for magnetic drive preamplifier applications. In order to save mask cost preamplifiers are often built on a BICMOS process which while consisting of a 3V BJT has 1.8V MOS as the only MOS device. The main feature of the I/O is the ability to work directly off 5V pin supply while also being tolerant to 5V over-voltage on the common output bus using only 1.8V MOS and 3V bipolar devices. The I/O driver supports 1.8/2.5/3.3V signalling levels while requiring no extra LDO, to generate the IO supply voltage.
