Abstract :
The application of condition monitoring (CM) to improve the reliability of high voltage equipment and cables has been widely accepted by most utilities. Hundreds of new instruments are in use around the world. Enormous quantities of CM data are collected from on-line and off-line tests every day. It may be the right time to ask if we are using CM wisely and effectively. A CM program must of course be accurate, reliable and cost-effective. Based on case studies, this paper presents some important issues to be addressed for smart condition monitoring (SCM).
