  • Abstract
This paper sheds light on the possibility, scope and benefits of using `Smartphones´ as `sensor nodes´ in a `Wireless Sensor Network´ (WSN). Now-a-days, every smart phone has been integrated with different types of sensors & are consolidating with more and more sensors as they advance. Currently, smart phones have sensors to detect humidity, atmospheric pressure, temperature, accelerometer, gyroscope & so on. So the device can be maneuvered in WSN as a provenance of data, since smart phone users are scattered in everywhere. The sensing technology can be manipulated to collect data which are amalgamated in a smartphone. Any information that is convenient can be sent to the server by the user which can be further utilized for public interest. This information can be derived either from the sensor on the phone or from internet. Besides, users can lavish any worthwhile information deliberately. Usually, the sensors in an area are prodigious in number due to the gigantic smart phone users and for that reason, if one phone is down, there is always a second one to vouchsafe the statutory data. Thus, the main hindrances on the resources of WSN (such as energy, memory, computational speed and communications bandwidth) can be annihilated by our proposal as smartphone possesses high speed processor, long life rechargeable battery and high speed data communication system.
