Abstract :
This paper describes the overview and effectiveness of STATCOM introduced to the independent power system of JR East. In the independent power system, synchronous phase modifier (Rotary Condenser: RC) was introduced in Musashisakai AC substation. Because of its aging and increase of voltage fluctuation due to increase of loads, RC is replaced to the STATCOM which has higher performance and higher response speed. The various sorts of deliberation, analysis and tests and kind have been done, and the restoration of voltage fluctuation and the improvement of stability of power system are confirmed.
