Abstract :
The feed-forward charge/discharge control scheme of energy storage systems (ESS´s) for DC electric railways takes advantage of the fact that the track and speed profiles are already available for all runs of trains before they take place. Using the track and speed profile information, the capacity of the ESS´s can be best utilised to obtain maximal effects. This idea can be used for both onboard and stationary ESS´s. However, the effect of introducing feed-forward charge/discharge control to stationary ESS´s is not as significant as the onboard ESS´s, and it is expected to be difficult to prepare and maintain the feed-forward data required to implement such a scheme. In this paper, the authors propose the fuzzy feed-forward control for stationary ESS´s, which is expected to make such preparation and maintenance of feed-forward data easier while improving the overall performance of the charge/discharge control.
