Abstract :
This paper is focus on application of Geographic Information System (GIS) in Distribution Management System (DMS). The difficulty has been analyzed, and the solution has been found. GIS and DMS are two kinds of computer application software. They are different in data structures and data transmission protocols. As a result, they can not doing data exchange directly. It must be realized data exchange between these two systems, if GIS can be applied in DMS. Through study on the standards IEC 61970 series and IEC 61968 series, it found that IEC 61970 has been defined Common Information Model (CIM) which solves the problem of different data structures of different systems, and IEC 61968 has been defined interfaces for the major elements of an interface architecture for DMS which provides a method of data exchange between GIS and DMS. After the GIS data has been converted to the DMS data based on IEC 61970 and IEC 61968, integrality and validity of the received data in DMS need checking. The right data writes into DMS database, and the wrong data sends back to GIS for modification. Based on the DMS database, Automatic Mapping (AM) can be done which saves time and improves work efficiency. All of the studies in this paper has been used in practice, and achieved favorable effect.
