Abstract
A probe tangent to the patch fed stacked microstrip antenna for wide band high gain applications is presented. By employing only two patches with proper fixed ratio and applying the probe tangent to the patch for feeding another patch, a novel feeding antenna is designed with both high-gain (12 dBi) and wide-band [35%, standing wave radio (SWR ≤ 2)] characteristics. In addition, the 2-dB-gain bandwidth is around 25%, which covers the impedance bandwidth. Compared with conventional stacked antennas, the proposed antenna can achieve a wide band high gain performances and has a simple structure of processing as well. Details of the proposed antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed.
