Abstract :
Firstly, a novel slow-wave microstrip structure (SWMS) is proposed, which is composed of two-layer metamaterial. Then, a high gain compact resonant antenna based on the present SWMS is designed, fabricated, simulated and measured. The length, width and height of the proposed antenna are only 1/9 λ0, 1/9 λ0, and 1/36 λ0, respectively. The patch area of proposed antenna is only 14.6% of a conventional half-wavelength square microstrip antenna. The measured gain is found to be 4.9 dB.
