Abstract :
The propagation properties of electromagnetic wave through chaff clouds are investigated. The orientation characteristics of chaffs in atmosphere are analyzed and a modeling method of directional distributions of chaffs is introduced. The orientation distributions of chaffs in polarimetric coordinate systems are thereupon obtained. Using the Einarsson solution, we calculate the forward and back scattering properties of chaffs, and then deduce the effective propagation constant of chaff cloud. At last, the propagation parameters in typical chaff clouds are calculated and shown.
