Abstract :
The design process for electromechanical devices is discussed and the roles played by the knowledge of the designer, experimental devices and physics based models in achieving an effective solution examined. The representation of the knowledge components in a computer based implementation of the process is considered and appropriate implementations are presented. The resulting system functions as an intelligent advisor guiding and monitoring the design process.
