Simulated circuits for switching tests of on-load tap-changers with a single auxiliary contact

Abstract :
The IEC 60214-1:2003 standard describes several type tests for tap-changers and drive units. Although these tests are enough, some of them are not described properly or with the sufficient details. On the other hand in some cases the acceptance criteria given do not guarantee proper operation of the tested apparatus. The standard does not take into consideration the diverter switch schemes with a single auxiliary contact, which are already widely used. Some of the shortcomings of the standard are listed in this article.
