Abstract
The IEC 60214-1:2003 standard describes several type tests for tap-changers and drive units. Although these tests are quite enough, some of them are not described properly or with the sufficient details. In some other cases acceptance criteria might not guarantee proper operation of the tested apparatus. The standard does not take into consideration the diverter switch schemes with a single auxiliary contact, which are already widely used. Some of the shortcomings of the standard are listed in this article.
