Abstract :
This paper proposes a perceptual video quality assessment based on structural similarity index (SSIM). SSIM is a image quality assessment metric used to measure the similarity between two images based on three comparisons such as luminance, chrominance and structure. SSIM value is calculated for each of the macroblocks obtained from the block partition tree algorithm. SSIM is used to achieve better quality video as it extracts the image structural characteristics. SSIM based video coding using 2 dimensional discrete wavelet transform provides better compression efficiency than Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). This method can achieve significant gain at lower bit rate in terms of rate SSIM performance. Experimental results show that better video quality is achieved using DWT.
