Abstract :
Usage of image processing techniques for robotic systems is essential to make robot which can perform tasks like human. In this paper a person follower robotic system is proposed using an NI Single-board Reconfigurable Input-Output (SBRIO-9632). The board has real time controller and a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device. The controller and devices are programmed using NI LabVIEW software. The person follower is a DaNI robot of NI which has SBRIO, free wheel and a 180 degree rotating ultra-sonic sensor. An IP-camera and a wireless router are interfaced with the SBRIO. The system follows a person using an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) method and avoids obstacles using its frontend ultrasonic sensor system. This paper also presents an algorithm for processing received data from the IP-Camera and the sensor to control the DaNI robot movement. The conducted experiments show promising results as the quick response by the robot to follow a person and avoiding the obstacles.
