Abstract :
One of the biggest changes the power industry will encounter over the next twenty years will be the significant increase of embedded generation connecting directly to the distribution system. Amongst various generator connection requirements required to ensure network resilience, Fault Ride Through requirement may be one of the key areas which requires further assessment. Providing the capability within embedded generators to remain connected to the system during voltage disturbances ensures the grid will not face significant reduction in the generation following a disturbance. The purpose of this paper is to describe the methodology to study the impact of transmission networks´ disturbances on distribution networks as well as to what degree embedded generation is predicted to support the system against such disturbances.
