The research & application of COMTRADE as a format for data exchange in smart substation

COMTRADE as a common format for transient data exchange in power system is used for supporting the exchange of fault and transient data for different applications in power system. SV messages in smart substation contain the quality information for data describing, of which the description of the data effectiveness is crucial. After the exchange from data extracted from SV messages into common format, the information of data effectiveness will get lost. This paper analyzes deeply that how to extend the common format to meet the needs of applications in smart substation and compatibility of currently-executing standard common format. This research has reference significance for data exchange in smart substation when the new version of COMTRADE has not been issued.
