Abstract :
Modular multilevel converter (MMC) has the advantage of simple modulation, low switching-frequency and low harmonic component. It has been widely used in VSC-HVDC systems, especially the power transmission across sea. This paper introduces MMC average value model (AVM), and modifies the DC-side AVM to present a simplified method of transient calculating during the process of DC fault. This method lightens the burden in calculation, and the simulation result of the AVM shows a good consistency with that of the detailed model.
