Abstract
We compare the merits of two fully autonomous coherent optical receiver architectures including an investigation of robustness to nonlinearities using experimental 31.5Gbaud OOK/ BPSK/ QPSK/ 16-QAM waveforms after 810km transmission. The first architecture performs modulation format recognition using a pure higher-order-statistics method whereas the second utilizes Stokes space analysis.
