Abstract :
This paper introduces two in one VHF-conical monopole antenna for ground penetrating radar GPR application. It consists of two pieces which is mechanically assembled and disassembled to operate as two separate VHF antennas. The proposed cone is divided into two pieces at a plane that allows first piece to work as a separate antenna. The proposed ground plane is shaped as metallic parallel rectangular which is surrounded by metallic ring. Four Teflon posts are used to connect the metallic ring with first antenna piece. The second antenna piece is added to first antenna piece and connected with it with four metallic nails. The probe feed and rectangular metal plate is proposed and is used to feed the proposed antenna. The first antenna piece measured bandwidth extends from 73 MHz to 500 MHz and when second antenna piece is added, the measured antenna bandwidth extends from 53.6 MHz to 500 MHz. Good agreement is obtained between measured and simulated results.
