Abstract :
The reliable identification of metallic objects when using passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) transponder (antenna + chip) is a major challenge. The reasons are depolarization effects of electromagnetic waves on metallic surfaces. In order to ensure the required high communication capability between RFID reader and transponder, a novel developed three-dimensional antenna design is presented. It can be applied directly onto metal surfaces. Next to the obtained communication capability, the antenna can be manufactured by applying printing technologies which are innovative and cost-efficient. The carried out research and developments contribute directly to the increased applicability of wireless communication.
