Abstract :
Split extension for coherent, self-amplified PONs through infrastructure-defined, distributed pumping of an intermediate extender box in between feeder and drop segments is experimentally demonstrated. Measurements over field-installed fibre confirm that massive loss budgets of 52 dB are compatible for a fully loaded coherent PON with a data rate of 1 Gb/s per UDWDM channel and heterodyne reception at the ONU.
