  • Abstract
Physical attacks are a serious threat for secure embedded devices. Attacks based on analysis of electromagnetic emissions of such devices have proven to be particularly dangerous, more than power-based analyses, as they can target even small and specific portion of the chip. The electromagnetic waves can be used effectively also as an active mean of attack, by perturbing the secure computations. In this paper we report the main results in the area, focusing in particular on active electromagnetic attacks. We conclude the paper reporting the current works in the area of early estimation of EM vulnerabilities and in the area of countermeasures, as example of promising directions for future research.
