Abstract :
Mobile devices are making a giant stride in both the educational and industrial arena. They tend to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of learning by providing a contextual and ubiquitous access. Traditional form of learning does not adequately cater for active learners because they always want to learn by doing. In this paper we detailed the analysis, design and implementation of multimedia system on Smartphone for learning Automata Theory. The system has six sections for a rich user experience. It is easy to use with a rich learning friendly interface. It allows users to simulate the behavior of an automaton, watch lectures, read lecture notes, view presentations, take quiz and also a help section that serves as a manual. Among the contribution of this work is the use of existing technologies to improve learning, increase material retention and encourage active participation of students. It also meets the active learning preferences of engineering and science students. The framework for the complete system is built to support various courses as no part of the system is hardwired.
