  • Abstract
This paper presents a method of synthesizing covariance matrix elements of array input signal based on the relation between the relative location of array elements for high resolution 2-D Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) estimation. Antenna array generally has the same number of array elements and receiver modules which often leads large receiver hardware cost. The authors have already studied a way of antenna switching to reduce receiver cost based on the relation between the absolute location of array elements, but the receiver cost is still large and needs to be further reduced. In this paper, we propose a method of DOA estimation from sparse data by synthesizing array covariance matrix elements, via antenna switching based on the relation between the relative location of array elements. Performance of the proposed approach is evaluated in detail through computer simulation.
