Abstract :
In the wireless ad hoc networks, the route request messages are always flooding to construct the route from source to destination. Flooding the route request messages unlimitedly will generate many protocol overheads, which lower the bandwidth utilization and consume much energy. This paper proposed a novel density-aware location-aided routing protocol (DALAR) to improve the performance of the route discovery phase. When a node receives a route request message, it will not forward the message unconditionally but according to the number of its neighbor nodes and the location information to determine whether it needs to rebroadcast the message. Simulation results show that the length of the constructed route in the proposed method is the same as the common used flooding methods but the nodes which participate on forwarding the route request messages are reduced 1%-4%.
