Abstract :
To achieve the same availability as PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service providers deploy the HA (High Availability) mechanisms in the VoIP servers. Specifically, the VoIP server with the HA mechanism stores the VoIP user´s registration record in the non-volatility memory (e.g., hard disk). After the VoIP server is restored from the failure, the server can retrieve the registration records from the non-volatility memory. The VoIP server with HA mechanism has four access modes for (i.e., memory-only mode, write-through mode, write-back mode and database-only mode). In this paper, we evaluate and compare these database access modes in terms of the response time of the REGISTER message, the system recovery delay and the processing time of the INVITE transactions under different database access mode configurations.
