Abstract :
In this manuscript, a new design of a compact printed elliptical disc ultrawideband antenna with defected ground plane for UWB applications is proposed. The designed antenna is fed by a 5Ω microstrip line and printed on a dielectric FR4 substrate of permittivity εr = 4.4 and thickness h= 0.8 mm. The optimization process on the planar ellipticalshaped monopole has been presented to achieve an ultrawideband at -10 dB return loss bandwidth. The proposed compact design enhances the bandwidth and improves the return loss. The antenna under investigation covers 5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN, 3.5/5.5 GHz WiMAX, 7.25-7.76 GHz for downlink of X-band satellite communication system, 4 GHz-8 GHz that is C band and 8 GHz-12 GHz that is X band for radar application and 8.01-8.55 GHz ITU band. In addition to this, the antenna has a simple planar structure and small size of 26×30 mm2. The antenna exhibits a good radiation pattern in horizontal plane which makes it useful for various applications.
