Abstract :
Gender determination from human skeletal remains is one of the important studies in Forensic research. The gender estimation technique basically deals with the measurement the length of the bones. Various studies have been proposed based on forensic research methods where the measurements are calculated using manual laboratory tools. There are various bones which are analyzed for gender detection on human skeleton remains like skull, pelvic bone, long bones which provide 95% to 100% accurate estimation. Alternatively, sternum can be considered as a reliable bone for gender estimation. Sternum can be divided into manubrium, meso-sternum and xiphoid process and measurements are taken to verify Hyrtl´s law. In this paper, we have proposed an approach for automated gender estimation from rib-cage image of Indian population.
