Abstract
Allocating limited resources according to risk is a global problem. Therefore the optimal distribution of resources is a challenge decision makers have to face in several disciplines on different decision-making levels. In this article we describe an approach of a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) that determines favorable locations of water resources (wells) by linking risk and resource mapping in Open Source GIS (Geographic Information System) used to provide adaptive Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) tailored to different user groups, from private users up to governmental decision makers, for health service delivery. The pilot region for the research was the continent of Africa as the access to water resources is a huge challenge for the inhabitants in many regions. This approach is part of the “ReGLaN-Health and Logistics” project which deals with research concerning public health service delivery and SDSS implemented in a spatial early warning and response system.
