Abstract :
Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication is regarded as an essential means to avoid traffic accidents and enhance vehicle safety. However, reliability of the communication severely suffers from wireless propagation on the road such as fading and shadowing. Vehicle-roadside-vehicle relay communication schemes have been proposed to improve the reliability of the V2V communication. Although the scheme can ease fading and compensate shadowing loss for intersection environments, it increases airtime occupancy ratio which results in more chances of packet collisions. This paper proposes a network coding broadcast relay scheme considering the location of transmitting vehicle stations. It can reduce the air traffic caused by relaying and improve the performance of V2V communication. Simulated results show that the proposed scheme can effectively reduce airtime occupancy ratio under intersection environment and improve the performance of relaying for high traffic conditions.
