Abstract :
This paper shows the application of methodologies used in the design of control schemes to improve the dynamic behavior of electric power systems. The proposed control schemes protect the electric grid against two instabilities: power oscillations and voltage collapse. In particular, one control scheme is used to protect the electric grid of adverse effects of a major inter area mode and the other control scheme is proposed to avoid voltage collapse on the power system. Time domain simulations are used to assess the protection schemes proposed on a complex power system.
