Abstract :
The paper deals with a typical microgrid operating in an islanded mode. The microgrid is energized by a few power sources, namely a mini-hydroelectric plant, a diesel generator set and a photovoltaic field, and supplies both critical and noncritical loads. After modeling the power sources and illustrating both their management and that one of the microgrid, a computer-assisted analysis of the frequency transients in the microgrid under the primary regulation is carried out. The results show that, in certain situations, the frequency exceeds the admissible values for the critical loads. At last, the paper discusses the integration of a battery energy storage system into the microgrid to reduce the frequency excursions notably.
