  • Abstract
A novel coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed monopole as a radiating element of an antenna is proposed for chip size realization. The antenna has been designed on the basis of the elliptical geometry. The proposed CPW slot antenna is compact with the size of 26×36×1.6 mm3 which is printed on a cheap substrate of FR-4 and also is smaller than the previously proposed antennas. The parameters of this antenna were optimized through numerical simulations in Ansoft HFSS, after which the antenna was fabricated and characterized. The measurement results show that the proposed antenna has a -10 dB return loss bandwidth of 5.12 to 5.91 GHz, which covers the entire required band for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) 802.11a standard.
