Abstract
Recently a novel implementation of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system has been introduced, namely beamspace MIMO, which is potentially able to integrate the concept of standard MIMO into mobile devices, with respect to their size limitations. In this paper, circuit theory is introduced to study a beamspace MIMO system with electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antennas, which simplifies the analysis of previous researches on this topic. Furthermore, a channel estimation technique dedicated to beamspace MIMO is addressed, and an efficient training sequence is designed to estimate this channel. Bit error rate (BER) performance and mean-square-error (MSE) about channel estimation are investigated in detail. Simulation results show that the proposed optimal training sequence can achieve effective channel estimation for beamspace systems which also verifies our analytical results.
