Abstract :
Nextgeneration access network aims to support high data rate transmission for the end users. In this paper, we demonstrated 80-Gb/s time and wavelength division multiplexing-passive optical network (TWDM-PON) for next-generation second stage PON (NG-PON 2). Eight 10-Gb/s TDM-PON systems are stacked using eight wavelengths in the downstream direction and externally modulated. Tunable optical filter (TOF) is used to select the targeted downstream wavelengths and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) deployed in the receiver is used to improve the receiver sensitivity. The 80-Gb/s system is successfully demonstrated by simulation over 50 km fiber transmission, and 1:52 splitting ratio and 38 dB power budget is obtained. Further-more, findings revealed the achievable power variation penalty between the eight wavelengths without dispersion compensation is 2 dB at bit error rate (BER) of 10-9.
