Abstract :
In this paper, a new Empirical propagation model is presented that is based on the Log-distance model, however with a variable path loss coefficient. It was found that the path loss coefficient depends on the transmitter location within the room due to its impact on wall reflections, where for closer distances of the transmitter within 10λ from the nearest wall it can be modeled by a Fourier Series. And as the transmitter moves towards the center of the room, variations are minimal and can be modeled by its average value as function of the transmitter location from the nearest wall. The model is suitable for cases when an Omni-directional antenna is used as a transmitter and is placed close to the wall. For data collection, an in-house developed ray-tracing code was used to calculate the received signal strength in a given environment. The proposed model reduced the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) by approximately 1 dB compared to the Log-distance model with a constant value for the path loss coefficient and proved accuracy with more comprehensive simulation settings.
