  • Abstract
    In this paper, we investigate the performance of a 2.45 GHz annular cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna when mounted on the human torso. An impedance bandwidth of 3.7% was obtained centered at 2.45 GHz. The antenna was designed to achieve an omnidirectional radiation pattern similar to a monopole antenna which can effectively couple the electromagnetic waves between the wireless sensors nodes placed at different locations on the human body. The on-body efficiency of the antenna was 52.6% when placed at a height of 2 mm from a muscle tissue phantom at 2.45 GHz.
