Abstract :
In this paper an optical switch is realized using SOA´s in a Mach-Zehnder (SOA-MZI) configuration, which is based on cross-phase modulation (XPM) property in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) and interference structure. It was operated at 10 Gbit/s. The phase of the signal changes in SOA by the optical power injected in the SOA. The MZI structure provides a method to transform phase shift into amplitude variations. The simulation results verify the switching action of the optical switch with a better on off contrast ratio of 29.73dB at 1554 nm, one of the center wavelengths of ITU 100-GHz grid covering the C and L bands.
