  • Abstract
    For the purpose of probing into the quality abilities that the fire fighters should possess to qualify them for the position and improve their comprehensive quality, an behavior event interviews and a questionnaire survey were conducted on the competency of fire fighters. Through an exploratory factor analysis on the 172 effective responses, a competency model for fire-fighter was initially established. Then an investigation on 164 fire fighters from 7 fire brigades was conducted and analyzed by means of confirmatory factor analysis. The study shows that the result of the confirmatory factor analysis supports the rationality of building the initial model, And the competency model for the fire fighters contains five dimensions and 19 competency items. The five dimensions are psychological quality, vocational skill, self-development, professional accomplishment and interpersonal cooperation. The study has both theoretical and practical significance on the selection, training and improvement of the comprehensive quality of fire fighters.
