Abstract :
The impact of depth map compression on synthesized virtual view quality is analyzed. We take the view synthesis experiment for depth map and color image symmetric and asymmetric compression. The results demonstrate that the depth map is less important than the color image in view synthesis. When the color image compress at the fixed index, keep the depth map compression within a certain range, the quality of the synthesized view have negligible change, and if keep one depth map of the views at certain threshold, the other view´s depth map can be further compressed. Subjective evaluation confirms these experimental results and shows that depth map compression does not affect the depth perception of synthesized view.
