Abstract :
This paper presents a simple and effective method to automatically evaluate the cut grade for small round diamond. The prerequisite to conduct the method is the accurate edge extraction of diamond table facet. A two-stage approach is developed in this paper to extract the table edge of diamond, by conducting a counting process for rough estimation, followed by modified virtual motion. With the accurate edge extraction result, the cut grade of diamond can be successfully evaluated. The experimental results show that the proposed method can accurately evaluate the cut grade of diamond and the overall performance meets the requirement of cut grading standards.
