Abstract :
One of the newly implemented maximum power point tracking algorithms is the Three Point Quadrature Approximation (TPQA) algorithm. This algorithm has showed a good tracking response of the Maximum Power Point (MPP). However, the TPQA has some problems such as the fail of tracking the MPP under rapidly changing environmental conditions and the oscillations around the MPP value which lead to power losses. In this paper a modified TPQA algorithm is proposed to improve the stability and achieve an accurate response to the rapidly changing environmental conditions. The period of power oscillations is reduced by 40% compared to the TPQA algorithm. In addition, the oscillations in the system around the maximum power point are also reduced. However, the average output power of the proposed algorithm is lower by 1.8% compared to the TPQA.
