Abstract :
This paper concentrates on the corona discharge of overhead line insulators. Based on the fusion of corona discharge theory, high voltage insulation theory and ultraviolet photon detection theory, a new method of detection of insulator partial discharge is proposed, which applies ultraviolet pulse detection method in the detection of insulator corona discharge. So that the health conditions of overhead line insulators can be obtained. Health conditions data can help with fault detection, and predicting the occurrence of accidents in the development stage of overhead line insulation accidents. In this way, safety of the grid is secured and preventing ahead is also possible. In this paper, the whole system for ultraviolet corona discharge detection and testing is introduced and the details are elaborated. Application of this system on high voltage overhead line for the testing of live or not is performed, and the result shows excellent accuracy. Then the system is applied to the corona discharge of overhead line insulators to collect data. Analysis of the data shows consistent result as expectation of the condition of the insulators. In the data collection process, it can easily discover burrs and broken strand of the overhead line.
