Abstract
This paper proposes to automate the system for testing macular degeneration using the Amsler Grid test, allowing the test to be decentralized by making availability of the provision to take the test on a personal computer. We provide an electronic version of the Amsler Grid with options to mark for blurred vision, black spots and no vision. This marked grid is then automatically scored and based on the criticality of the score, consequential diagnosis is provided. This facilitates the patient to go for real-time medical checkup only in critical stages and also helps ophthalmologists by reducing the number of minor criticality tests. Furthermore, it discusses how this proposal can be realized through platform-independent graphics-supported libraries such as those provided by Java, facilitating the user to take the test on a varied range of devices ranging from tablets to other mobile devices. Upon realization, it would aid in medical assistance and thereby stand out as an advantage against the available manual processes to do the same.
