Abstract :
Advances in mobile technology has increased availability, miniaturization and enhanced data rates demands. The evolution in this technology paves path to design and fabricate systems in the field of health sciences. A low cost, secure and portable health monitoring system for elderly and disabled chronic patients is presented in this paper. This system has an application running on laptop/mobile named as Telehealth Aggregation Manager (TAM), which collects data from medical sensors such as Glucometer, Thermometer etc connected through serial/Bluetooth interface. The data is then transmitted to database server via GPRS, Ethernet or Wi-Fi. The results can then be accessed by the doctors and the caretakers from anywhere around the globe. The system is tested on the localhost server and the results are presented. Johnson & Johnson lifescan Ultra 2 glucometer is used in the testing of this system. PTAM is intended to be used in hospitals, clinics, colleges, offices and homes. PTAM advantage over other systems is that it can simultaneously connect multiple medical devices for communication.
